FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What requirements must my manufacturing process meet in order to use the »idChip«?

The first important requirement is a suitable scanner capable of scanning the DataMatrix code. To manage tool data, you’ll need the appropriate software. ZOLLER offers both with »zidCode 4.0« and the TMS Tool Management Solutions software.

Is it possible to retrofit tools with the »idChip«?

Yes, that's possible at any time. Simply contact our sales department if you'd like to equip your tools with the ZOLLER »idChip«.

What are the advantages of the »idChip« over coding with adhesive labels?

We recommend »idLabel« primarily for turning tools and fixtures, since they are not used in a rotating manner. For rotating tools, the »idChip« is the better choice. It is secured in the holder, where it is protected yet still clearly visible. Attaching the »idChip« is simple; you can use two-component adhesive for this. You can purchase this adhesive from us or obtain it from other suppliers.

ZOLLER is known as a manufacturer of presetting and measuring machines. Does ZOLLER also manufacture the Tooling Solutions tool holders itself?

When it comes to tool holders, ZOLLER works closely with Schüssler as a partner. Schüssler manufactures the tool holders, while ZOLLER supplies the »idChip« and makes purchasing tool holders simple, fast, and convenient through the new ZOLLER Webshop.

What is the lifetime of the shrink-fit tool holder? How many times can tools be shrunk into and removed from the holder?

When ZOLLER Tooling Solutions shrink fit holders are heated and cooled correctly, they can be used for more than 10,000 shrink-fit cycles without any loss of accuracy for tool holders with a bore diameter greater than 6 mm. For diameters of 5 mm and below, the limit is 5,000 cycles.

Proper heating and cooling is supported by ZOLLER’s »actbyLight« technology to ensure the correct and safe processing of the shrink cycles.

Why should we use balanced tool holders?

Balanced tool holders increase productivity. The positive results of using balanced tool holders are visible in many areas of the machining process. Longer tool and spindle life, as well as higher material removal rates, are just a few of the factors that can significantly reduce production costs.

What is the maximum length available for ZOLLER Tooling Solutions in inches?

ZOLLER Tooling Solutions have a GPL holder length of 200 inches (overhang length A).

Are balanced ER collet chucks available?

ZOLLER Tooling Solutions also offers ER collet chucks that can be balanced. For the balancing process, the lock nut is fitted and a master pin is used to simulate the cutting tool.

What is the material of the shrink sleeve?

ZOLLER uses heat-resistant tool steel to manufacture the shrink fit holders for its ZOLLER Tooling Solutions.

What are the differences between shrink fit holders, collet chucks, and hydraulic tool clamping systems?

No other clamping system can match the holding force, concentricity, and performance of a shrink fit. Since shrink fit holders do not require collet chucks, collet nuts, or set screws, the shank diameters can be very slim, allowing even hard-to-reach areas to be machined.

What shank tolerance is required for using cutting tools in shrink-fit holders?

The shank tolerance of the cutting tool should be h5 or h6.

Where can I purchase ZOLLER Tooling Solutions tool holders?

Orders can be placed online via the ZOLLER MYZOLLER portal. Online orders can currently be placed in Germany and the United States. In other countries, you can select the tool holders in the MYZOLLER portal, send the generated item list to the respective regional ZOLLER sales representatives, and request a quote.

Are the tool holders balanced after the ZOLLER »idChip« or other RFID chips are added?

If the tool holders are ordered with ZOLLER »idChips« or other RFID chips, the tool holders are balanced with the chips installed.

What are the delivery times for all types of ZOLLER Tooling Solutions?

It is possible to check the in-stock status of ZOLLER Tooling Solutions online at any time through the web store.

Is it possible to obtain the DXF, PNG, and STP digital file formats for ZOLLER Tooling Solutions before I place an order for the corresponding tool holders?

The digital twins are available in the ZOLLER Tooling Solution Webshop, where they can be downloaded at any time and used in the ZOLLER TMS Tool Management Solutions software or other CAD/CAM systems.
